Four Texas A&M undergraduate engineering programs rank #1 in Texas
The College of Engineering, and eight of its undergraduate engineering programs, ranked in the top 10 amongst public institutions.
In the latest edition of the U.S. News & World Report 2026 Best College Rankings, Texas A&M University’s College of Engineering undergraduate engineering program has retained a spot in the top 10 among public engineering schools and ranked 17th overall.
The Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering secured the No. 1 spot overall amongst private and public institutions. Along with the petroleum engineering department, three other departments were ranked No. 1 in Texas — the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, the Wm Michael Barnes ’64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Bishop, vice chancellor and dean of engineering and director of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. “The dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff and students to advance engineering education and research shines through in these rankings.”
Eight departments from the College of Engineering were ranked in the top 10 of public institutions. These are the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering (1), the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering (4), which is part of both the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M, the Department of Aerospace Engineering (6), the Wm Michael Barnes ’64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (7), the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering (8), the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (8), the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (10), and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (10).
Computer science (23) is part of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Computer engineering (20), which falls in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering were also ranked in the top 25 of public universities.
